One thing I find interesting is how dating sites sell their services on a subscription basis. That is, they charge their clients a monthly fee for being a member of their site. The reason I find this interesting is because it suggests people are members of dating sites for months on end. I don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing, but rather I believe it begs the question, why are you dating?

Are you dating to find that someone special? If you are, you would not need to be a member of a dating service for months at a time. Rather, you would want to join a dating service that sells (or gives) contacts with people.

That way you would only spend your money when you needed to meet new people. You’d then have the luxury of getting to know them at your own pace without paying an extra cent. If you meet someone wonderful and it all works out, great. If down the track you realise the person you were dating was not for you, you can revisit the dating site months or even years later and use or buy your credits to meet new people. The point is though that you don’t need to spend monthly fees in the meantime.

On the other hand, you may be in this to meet lots of new people who you can have lots of fun with. If you are a traveller in a new city, this may be just the thing for you. Or you may just enjoy this type of thing. The reason does not really matter. If this is what you are looking for, a subscription service is probably the right thing for you as with these memberships, you can typically contact an unlimited number of people.

Regardless of what you are looking for, the point is to think about it. Make sure you do. If you are a “someone special” type of person, do not join the subscription service, it will end up costing you more than you need to pay. The same goes if you are looking for a “party of friends”. In this case, subscribe. It will save you stacks.

One thing I have noticed about this topic is that most subscription type sites are “adult” dating sites. Ie. The sites that put a bit more emphasis on the “sexy” side of dating. It makes sense really, following on from my argument above, these sites are more about finding “bed mates” than a soul mate. Don’t be put off by this though if this is the payment structure you are looking for. Just be clear with your partners about where your boundaries are.

In summary, its really important when joining dating sites, you think and plan a little first. Too many people don’t think when it comes to matters of the heart. If you forget to think before you join a dating site, you are likely to end up paying a lot of money to meet lots of people who are not very appropriate for you.
